Students are able to make the smooth transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 within the academy. Our sixth form offers both traditional A Level subjects and vocational courses that allow students to achieve the qualifications needed to access the most prestigious universities and highly competitive careers. Sixth formers learn in a mature and responsible environment which allows them to develop their personal skills, confidence and aspirations.
This section includes a copy of our current prospectus, an explaination of the different qualifications, guidance on choosing courses, curriculum pathways and information on the courses that are available. Information on the general entry criteria and the subject specific entry criteria are also available along with the application form.
North Durham Academy Sixth Form Goes From Strength to Strength!
Year 13 students last summer once again achieved an outstanding 99% pass rate in their examinations. 98.2% of students were successful in the prestigious A2 results and an amazing 100% of students succeeded in both our Level 3 BTEC and Professional qualifications. This was a phenomenal achievement given that the academy sixth form was only established in 2013.
An impressive 100% of students were accepted onto their chosen universities. Given the intense competition surrounding university admissions, we are especially proud of our students for their success in achieving their desired destinations.
Among the students celebrating were:
Erin Wright, who achieved A Level Biology A*, A Level Chemistry A, A Level Spanish B and Extended Project Qualification A*. Erin is studying Biological Sciences at Durham University.
Molly Ambler, who achieved A Level English Language A*, A Level English Literature B, A Level History B and Extended Project Qualification A*. Molly is studying Ancient and Medieval History at Cardiff University.
Katie O’Malley, who achieved A Level English Language A, A Level History B, A Level Art C and Extended Project Qualification A*. Katie is studying English at Queens University Belfast.
These high achieving students are attending what are called “Russell Group” universities, who are made up of the top ranking universities in Britain.
