Medicine and Dentistry Day at Newcastle University

On Thursday 15th June, a group of Year 9 students attended a medicine and dentistry (MAD) day at Newcastle University. The day was designed to inspire students to pursue careers in the fields of medicine and dentistry by giving them a taste of university life.

The day began in a lecture theatre where students were introduced to the many specialisms available to study to become a dentist or a doctor at university and told about the time each course takes to complete.

Students then took part in activities about diseases of the mouth and ethical issues in dentistry before lunch.

After lunch the remainder of the day was spent taking part in further activities, where students had the opportunity to carry out an ultrasound scan, insert an artificial airway and create their own wax tooth using dental technician tools.
