Year 10 Drama students present The Monstum
Year 10 Drama students at North Durham Academy have been rehearsing and performing The Monstrum as part of their GCSE examinations.
The show is a gothic melodrama about the terrifying onset of adolescence, written by Kellie Smith, which tells the story of a small isolated village that is struck by an infectious disease.
As the story unfolds, villagers grow fearful and hysteria builds until a local scholar comes up with a gruesome solution to the disease.
The production was first performed on Tuesday 7th March and Wednesday 8th March, in the academy’s drama studio, to an invitation only crowd, and is in association with National Theatre Connections.
Tinuke Craig, National Theatre Connections Director said, “The Students really embraced the gothic melodrama of the play and to great effect.
“This is a wonderfully engaging company who work really well together and have created a tight ensemble. This is something to be really proud of.”
Students will be performing their final performance at the Northern Stage on Wednesday 5th April.
Tickets are available from the Northern Stage on 0191 230 5151.
