Success for food hamper initiatives
The two food hamper initiatives running at North Durham Academy have been a massive success.
The academy collected 93Kg of food (an equivalent of 120 meals) and delivered it to the local distribution centre for County Durham food banks, at the start of the month.
Students who delivered the hampers were able to learn about how the food bank is run and participated in organising the food within the warehouse.
Food collected will be distributed in local areas such as Stanley and Annfield Plain throughout the Christmas period.
Our second initiative involves donating 16 Christmas food hampers to 16 local residents in the Stanley area.
These people are housebound and some are sick.
Throughout this week students and staff are visiting the residents in their homes to distribute the food collected.
Miss Cassidy, teacher at North Durham Academy said “We are extremely proud of what our NDA Family has managed to collect. I would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has helped this initiative to be a success!”
