North Durham Academy Sixth Form Goes From Strength to Strength!
Our Year 13 students have once again achieved an outstanding 99% pass rate in this year’s examinations. 98.2% of students were successful in the prestigious A2 results and an amazing 100% of students succeeded in both our Level 3 BTEC and Professional qualifications. This is a phenomenal achievement given that the academy sixth form was only recently established in 2013.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students, who have built upon the impressive 99% pass rate achieved by our 2015 cohort. We are certain that with our excellent set of Year 12 results we will be celebrating even better results in the future.
Students leaving us this year are yet again progressing to some of the country’s prestigious and competitive university destinations.
An impressive 91% of students were accepted onto their chosen universities, with 88% being accepted straight away into their first choice universities. Given the intense competition surrounding university admissions, we are especially proud of our students for their success in achieving their desired destinations.
Among the students celebrating today were:
Erin Wright, 18 from Stanley, achieved A Level Biology A*, A Level Chemistry A, A Level Spanish B and Extended Project Qualification A*. Erin plans to accept her offer of a place to study Biological Sciences at Durham University.
Molly Ambler, 18 from Burnopfield, achieved A Level English Language A*, A Level English Literature B, A Level History B and Extended Project Qualification A*. Molly intends to accept her offer of a place studying Ancient and Medieval History at Cardiff University.
Katie O’Malley, 18 from Stanley, achieved A Level English Language A, A Level History B, A Level Art C and Extended Project Qualification A*. Katie will be accepting her offer of a place to study English at Queens University Belfast.
These high achieving students will be attending what are called “Russell Group” universities, who are made up of the top ranking universities in Britain.
Mr Anderson, Vice Principal commented “All university applications are incredibly competitive so to have so many students accepted into such high ranking institutions is fantastic. It reflects the hard work our students have put into both their studies and wider personal skills, as well as the support and guidance provided by our staff.”
Mr Thornton, Principal y said “We are incredibly proud of all our Year 13 students who have worked extremely hard to achieve these impressive results. Although we are sad to see our sixth form students leave us, we are excited by the opportunities they now have for the future that these results will give them.”
Staff are now preparing for enrolment of next year’s sixth form students to build on this year’s success. Students can enrol on 25th & 26th August 2016.
North Durham Academy will be holding an Open Evening on Thursday 13th October at 6pm for any Year 11 students who are interested in joining our successful sixth form in September 2017. To find out more about what NDA16+ has to offer go to www.northdurhamacademy.co.uk/NDA16+ .
