House Academic Challenge
The revamped house system this year saw in the launch of The NDA Academic Challenge. Over 220 pupils participated across three events: The NDA Maths Challenge; The Big Quiz; and The NDA Spelling Bee.The first of these events saw pupils working in groups of 6, exchanging different strategies in order to solve various problem solving activities set within functional skills. It has to be said, all pupils behaved impeccably, representing their houses in the best possible light. The second event, the Big Quiz, hosted (as per tradition) by Mr. Arabacioglu, saw pupils compete in groups of five across six separate rounds, the highlight of which being the Head of House personality round- pupils guessing various facts about their respective staff member. Feedback was positive, comments being passed on to tutors and Year Managers the following day.
A very close competition this year. On equal points with Alnwick until the last event, Barnard came through to take top spot in the Spelling Bee- an event which tested pupils on their spelling of this term’s ‘WOW Words’- winning overall by a margin of just 2 points. Special thanks go out to Mr Arabacioglu, Mr. Lee, Ms. Dunn and Ann Jackson for volunteering their services during the course of the day, and for helping make it the special event that it was. Looking forward to next year’s Academic Challenge!
