House Formula One ...Warkworth Race to Glory
The House Formula One event took place on the final day of half-term. KS3 students had designed and built remote controlled cars in Enrichment over a two month period in preparation for the event. As the music system blasted out the beats and burgers were digested, the racers were nervously making last minute adjustments and doing a practice lap. Three races culminated in a very hotly contested event as Warkworth took the early advantage with a win in the first race, edging out Lumley. Lumley won the second race but with Warkworth winning the final race, the Formula One trophy turned yellow for this year. The points earned were as follows; Warkworth 5; Lumley 4; Barnard 3; Alnwick 2; Bamburgh 1.
The event was sponsored by Tony’s Tyres, Tanfield Lea, who kindly donated the winner’s trophy, tyres for the course and a banner. North Durham Academy would like to extend its thanks to Durham Remaps and The Sunderland & District Vintage Car Club for donating their show-piece cars. Modern Cars on show courtesy of Durham Remaps included a Ford Focus RS and a Range Rover Autobiography. Vintage Cars on show were a Club1963 Ford Classic, a 1972 Ford Consul (Mk1 Granada shape), Mk3 Granada and an Austin Maxi. Also, staff brought in a Nissan 370Z and MGTF courtesy of staff. The crowds of students meant a fantastic final Friday!
The money raised during the race goes to Help for Heroes, the Academy's chosen charity for this year.
