- 2014 Boy reading in LRC
The Academy has an open access and fully inclusive admissions policy and students from all backgrounds and abilities are welcome. We provide up to 300 places to Year 7 students each year. For entry into Year 7, applications to the academy are made through the Local Authority co-ordinated admissions scheme. The Academy operates the same admissions arrangements and oversubscription criteria as Durham County Council.
As a parent/carer you are required to complete the Common Application Form (CAF) which is sent by their local authority. If you would like to apply for a Year 7 place at the academy you should name North Durham Academy as your preference on the CAF.
How to Apply for 2017/18 Academic Year
If your son/daughter is born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006 they will be eligible to start secondary school in September 2017.
If your son/daughter is at primary school in County Durham you will receive a letter during September from the Admissions Team at Durham County Council. These letters are distributed by primary schools.
Children are no longer required to attend the closest secondary school to their home address. You can express up to three preferences for your child to be admitted into a secondary school of your choice. At North Durham Academy, we can accommodate up to 300 students in each year group. This means that there has never been a better time to apply to North Durham Academy, although increased demand for us from other areas does mean that you would be wise to place us as your first choice.
If you live outside of County Durham you can still apply to North Durham Academy, but you will need to complete the form provided by your Local Authority and name North Durham Academy as your first choice. The process is very similar to the one above and, again, we are more than happy to offer support to you throughout the process, either in person or by telephone.
There are three ways you can make your application, you can either:
Complete the Admissions Form you receive from Durham County Council in September and return it directly to the Admissions Team at Durham County Council
Go online at: www.durham.gov.uk/schooladmissions and click in the link to secondary schools places. Complete the on-line form by 31st October 2016 - you can only do the online form if you live in County Durham.
