As well as the general entry criteria for North Durham Academy’s 16+ courses, some subjects have the following additional requirements.

A Level

C grade from a GCSE Art related course. Students who have not studied Art in Year 11 can submit a portfolio of work for assessment.

Biology

A Level

Level 6 in Maths and B grade in Biology Triple Science GCSE, or Grade BB in Core and Additional Science GCSEs

Chemistry

A Level

Level 6 in Maths and B grade in Chemistry Triple Science GCSE. or Grade BB in Core and Additional Science GCSEs. Students should ideally take AS Maths alongside this subject

Drama

A Level

C grade in Drama GCSE and Level 5 in English GCSE

English Language

A Level

Level 5 in English or English Literature GCSE

English Literature

A Level

Level 5 in English or English Literature GCSE

French

A Level

B grade in French GCSE

Geography

A Level

C Grade in Geography GCSE

History

A Level

C Grade in History GCSE

Mathematics

A Level

Level 6 in Maths GCSE. It is recommended that students should ideally be at Level 7 in Maths to study this course

Physical Education

A Level

C grade in both PE and Biology or Core and Additional Science GCSEs. It is essential that students are actively involved in sport outside of school as a participant, official or team leader.

Physics

Level 6 in Maths and B grade in Physics Triple Science GCSE or Grade BB in Core and Additional Science GCSEs. Students should ideally take AS Maths alongside this subject.

Product Design

A Level

Grade C in a design related subject and Level 5  in Maths GCSE. Students who have not studied Resistant Materials or Graphic Products in Year 11 can submit a portfolio of work for assessment

Level 6 in Maths GCSE and  Level 5 in English GCSE

Sociology

A Level

Level 5 in both Maths and English GCSEs

Business

BTEC Level 3

3 separate GCSE subject passes at grades A* to C, and Maths and English GCSE at Level 4

Dance

A Level

3 separate GCSE subject passes at grades A* to C, and Maths and English GCSE at Level 4, and C grade (or equivalent) in a Dance or PE-related subject

Health & Social Care

BTEC Level 3

3 separate GCSE subject passes at grades A* to C, and Maths and English GCSE at Level 4

ICT

BTEC Level 3

3 separate GCSE subject passes at grades A* to C, and Maths and English GCSE at Level 4

Music Technology

BTEC Level 3

Students who have not studied music in Year 11 can apply and will have an audition to demonstrate musical ability and aptitude for the course.

Sports Studies
